Steam traps are designed to remove condensate, air, and other non-condensable gases from steam systems, as well as to retain steam until it is completely condensed. Inverted bucket steam traps remove condensate as it forms, i.e., the steam trap operates in a cyclic mode. The principle of operation is based on the difference in density between steam and condensate. The inverted cup of the steam trap is in the upper position when steam enters, thereby closing the outlet valve. As the steam condenses, the cup descends, opening the valve, and condensate is discharged from the steam trap. After that, the steam trap is refilled with steam and the cycle resumes.
