Charlie Barnett grew up in West Yorkshire and is now living in Falmouth post graduation, after studying Illustration at Falmouth University. By living in Cornwall, the sea has greatly impacted his work.
Charlie works with painting techniques and charcoal drawing to achieve atmospheric scenes. His inspiration is drawn from the sea and the wonders of the coast, thus influencing his mark making to achieve looseness and to evoke emotion which is important. Other traditional methods Charlie enjoys are printmaking, such as relief prints and monotypes because of their spontaneous nature.
From lighthouses to figures, Charlie likes to jump into anything new and enjoys imbuing his work with a storytelling narrative. Drawing inspiration from his walks along coast paths and enjoying time in nature by the sea gives him energy.
Charlie works at Sailors Jail Gallery and has done some assistant work with the Cygnets Art School. He makes time to create art at home, when not at the gallery or working in one of Falmouth's busiest pubs.
