This beautiful dress has a equally beautiful provenance as it the original owner wore it as her wedding dress in 1955. And if you believe in good karma being passed along with a dress i am happy to tell you that they stayed blissfully married until his passing a few years ago. So this dress was the beginning of a long and true love. Irene dressed many of the stars in Hollywood during its heyday and her designs are still highly sought after. This dress looks as if it was never worn so was obviously just worn that one day, cleaned and then stored properly. Its simplicity is deceiving - it has a inner dress made of a silk crepe that has small straps at the shoulder and skims over the body with a slightly nipped in waist and a pencil skirt. Over this is two layers of silk chiffon in that same pale taupe. I love how at the sleeves and the hem one layer is shorter then the other and each is in a perfect rolled edge that has been flattened so at first glance you think it must be a separate ribbon. This carries through to the back so you get the illusion that the silk is wrapped around the dress. It is perfect in every way and wonderfully romantic given its original purpose. Excellent, museum quality condition
The inner dress acts as the lining and all the inner seams are stitch finished perfectly It closes with a back painted metal zipper.
